Valladolid hosts the presentation of this interregional initiative that uses artificial intelligence and satellites to protect ecosystems.
The PRAE in Valladolid was the setting for the official launch of RETECHFOR, an ambitious project aimed at protecting forest ecosystems through advanced technology. The meeting was attended by the Regional Minister for the Environment, Housing, and Land Planning of Castile and León, Juan Carlos Suárez-Quiñones, along with representatives from the Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Government of the Canary Islands.
This strategic collaboration between the two regions demonstrates how digital transformation can be used to support the "green transition," strengthening the role of autonomous communities in European innovation.
Key points of the project in the Canary Islands and Castile and León:
· Smart Forest Management: Implementation of solutions based on Artificial Intelligence and robotics.
· Advanced Monitoring: Use of satellite observation for biodiversity monitoring and land management.
· Fire Prevention: Application of science and technology to anticipate risks and protect the natural environment.
· Innovation Laboratory: Consolidation of regions as benchmarks in sustainability and the green economy.
Boost with European Funds
RETECHFOR is part of the Territorial Networks for Technological Specialization (RETECH) program, an initiative co-financed by Next Generation EU funds under the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan. The project underscores the commitment of Castile and León and the Canary Islands to modern, cohesive, and efficient environmental management.
