5G Infrastructure Deployment and Fire Suppression

What is it and what is it used for?

Development of two autonomous robotic prototypes to support forest emergency management. The first is an all-terrain platform capable of transporting communications equipment to create a mobile connectivity bubble in areas without coverage. The second adapts a quadruped robot equipped with computer vision to detect small fires, approach them safely, and assist in firefighting efforts.

The problem it solves

Forest fires often occur in areas that are difficult to access and have limited communication coverage, which makes it challenging to coordinate response teams. Furthermore, early detection and response to small fires expose firefighters to dangerous situations. The project explores how autonomous robotics can improve the safety and effectiveness of these operations.

"Autonomous robotics can become a strategic ally in improving safety, communications, and the response to wildfires."

What makes it innovative?

Smart Mobility

Autonomous robots capable of operating in complex forest environments and accessing hard-to-reach areas.

Connectivity where it's needed

Deployment of mobile communications infrastructure to improve coordination during emergencies.

Safer procedure

Use of computer vision and quadruped robots to support the early detection and suppression of fires, thereby reducing risks to people.

Expected impact

Improving the ability to respond to wildfires, reducing risks to response teams, and increasing the effectiveness of emergency operations. Early action on wildfire outbreaks and improved communications can help minimize the environmental, social, and economic impacts associated with large wildfires.
